Misha Schubert is CEO of the new Super Members Council of Australia. Misha’s career has combined deep expertise in public policy debates and policy advocacy, executive leadership, board directorships and governance, Government relations, member and stakeholder engagement, speechwriting, communications, and journalism. She is an AICD-qualified Board Director. She previously worked as CEO of peak industry body Science & Technology Australia and in senior executive roles in the not-for-profit sector and for major media outlets including The Australian, The Age, the Sunday Age, commercial radio, and the ABC.
Georgia leads the development of high-impact strategies, bringing together research, data, public relations, digital, government relations and stakeholder engagement, to advocate for the millions of Australians earning super during their life and benefiting from it in retirement. Prior to joining SMC, Georgia was the Director of Advocacy, Corporate Affairs and Strategy at Industry Super Australia. Before working in superannuation, Georgia spent a decade working in state and federal government in a range of media, communications, and strategy roles, including most recently in the Office of the Premier of Victoria, as Deputy Director of Media.
Dr Emily Millane leads the development of SMC’s policy work, building a rigorous evidence base that supports the organisation’s advocacy on behalf of fund members. She is a policy analyst, lawyer, and adviser with expertise in superannuation and tax policy. Emily has worked in public policy research and analysis across the private and public sectors, in not-for-profits and in academia. She is a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne Law School, where she teaches in the Melbourne Law Masters. She commenced her career at Maddocks Lawyers in the commercial team. Emily’s PhD (ANU, 2020) examined the history of Australia’s superannuation system. She holds degrees in Arts (Hons) and Law from the University of Melbourne.
Based in Canberra, Matt is responsible for evaluating the constantly changing environment in super and identifying strategies and value creating activities across the organisation to enhance and protect the retirement savings of members. Working closely with the CEO and SMC's policy, advocacy, and business operations teams, Matt helps ensure SMC is focused and impactful in securing a better retirement for millions of Australians. Matt has traversed the intersection between policy, politics, and public affairs over the past 25 years as a senior treasury official, economic adviser to a former Treasurer, and in superannuation heading Industry Super Australia’s Canberra office.
Jo is an accomplished executive with 20+ years’ experience in corporate operational, governance, human resource, and administration capability. Working closely with the CEO, Jo leads the implementation of SMC’s finance, operations and people management strategies and processes that efficiently and effectively deliver business outcomes that drive SMC’s success. Jo is also Company Secretary to the SMC Board and appointed Committees. Jo is an Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Graduate. Prior to this role, Jo held key operational, governance and administrative roles at Industry Super Australia.
Aime is a senior member of SMC's Advocacy team with over a decade of experience in the financial services sector in policy and government relations roles. At SMC, Aime works to coordinate policy and research inputs and translate these into impactful advocacy products, as well as providing strategic engagement and government relations advice. Prior to joining SMC, Aime worked as a Senior Manager, Government and Regulatory affairs at PwC and has also spent time working in the offices of state and federal parliamentarians.
Working within the organisation’s advocacy team, Andrew helps develop strategies that amplify the voice of millions of Australians saving for their retirement. With experience working for Coalition members at the federal and state government levels, he provides key insights into the workings of public policy development and implementation on the issues that impact Australians’ lives after they retire. Passionate about the economic prosperity of all Australians, Andrew has experience advocating for Australian businesses and workers in peak bodies in the automotive and lighting industries.
Working as an analyst in the Data and Modelling Team, Ariana analyses economic and financial data to draw insights into Australia’s superannuation system. Before working in super, she worked at a boutique economic consultancy conducting macroeconomic research to forecast building activity in Australia.
Bruce is responsible for delivering high-quality and impactful analysis and modelling that underpins the policy recommendations of SMC. He leads a small team of analysts and works closely with the CEO, the Executive General Manager Strategy, and SMC’s policy and advocacy teams to model retirement incomes and the interactions between the tax, superannuation and social security systems to secure a better retirement for Australians. Bruce has had a career specialising in analysis and modelling, including economic and retirement modelling. He has previously worked for the Australian Treasury, where he led the initial development of Treasury’s Model of Retirement Incomes and Assets, the ATO and Industry Super Australia.
Debi manages the office of the chief executive, SMC’s leadership team and events. She is responsible for all administration, government relations engagements, and project management of SMC events. Prior to SMC, Debi managed national and international conferences and events, industry partnerships and held senior administrative roles.
Gary is an analyst in the Data and Modelling Team. His work involves research and modelling using a wide variety of economic datasets through quantitative and analytical approaches. During his time at Industry Super Australia (before the formation of SMC), Gary’s role centred on superannuation analysis while also working on topics such as agriculture, housing, and the domestic economy in support of ISA’s integrated campaigns. Gary has also worked as a researcher at Fairfax.Â
Holly works with and across the Executive Team, supporting the CEO to achieve their day-to-day and longer-term objectives and SMC’s strategic priorities. Holly helps drive integration and information sharing across the different SMC workstreams, identifying and resolving blockages. She also provides project-based support across the SMC Policy and Advocacy teams, identifying opportunities to add value and improve processes. Previously Holly spent a decade working in the Office of the Premier of Victoria, holding various senior roles in stakeholder engagement and parliamentary strategy, most recently as the Deputy Director of Parliament.
Holly Lindsay is responsible for the delivery of SMC’s Trustee Director Courses and contributes to the Council’s policy work in the governance space. Holly has specialised in governance issues in the superannuation, extractive industry, and banking sectors for the last 25 years, including working with the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI), Regan and BHP. She also directed Integrity Matters, an independent consultancy focusing on responsible investment, corporate sustainability, governance, and business ethics systems. Holly is a director of Transparency International Australia and a governor of World Wildlife Fund Australia
James Dowling is SMC’s Senior Media Manager. He runs national media campaigns to ensure SMC’s rigorous research and analysis on super policy is part of public debate. Before joining the super industry in 2019 James was a reporter with the Herald Sun, covering state politics, crime, courts, and national security. He has worked in major newsrooms both in Australia and the United Kingdom.
James heads up SMC’s government relations and research functions. He has over a decade of experience working in senior roles in state and federal governments, developing a profound understanding of policy and advocacy-based engagement. He has also worked in the private sector in public affairs, strategy, communications, and government relations.
As Senior Manager of the Data and Modelling Team, Jon leads a team of analysts, working closely with the Principal Modeller, the General Manager of Strategy and Insights and across the organisation to deliver robust and insightful analysis that supports SMC’s campaigns. Jon joined SMC in September 2024, coming from the Australian Treasury where he led the development of Treasury’s electricity market modelling capability as part of a new climate modelling function for the department. Prior to this, Jon’s career focussed on tax modelling in Treasury and the Parliamentary Budget Office, working closely with ministers, parliamentarians and their advisors to provide insights and develop reform proposals for Australia’s personal tax, superannuation and transfer payment systems.
Kate is a senior member of SMC’s policy team and is passionate about fostering a policy environment that protects and advances the superannuation interests of everyday Australians. Prior roles include Senior Manager, Advocacy and Research at AIST, Product Manager for eligible rollover fund AUSfund and IRIS Retirement Fund, and communications roles with Industry Fund Services, Media Super and IFM Investors.
Matt Read is responsible for strategic stakeholder engagement, communication, and advocacy at SMC. He works closely across the Advocacy, Policy, and leadership teams to lead SMC’s collaboration and engagement program with stakeholders. Matt has over 20 years of experience as a strategic communications leader and trusted advisor to CEOs and executive teams. Prior to his role at SMC, he was Senior Manager, Research and Public Affairs at Industry Super Australia. Before that he was General Manager Corporate Affairs at ME Bank for nine years.
Rhianna ensures SMC’s office management processes are effective and efficient. She oversees business controls and services delivery through third party vendors, to ensure effective support services are in place to enable SMC to meet its strategic goals. This includes finance, IT, contracts, operational policies, building and office management. Rhianna has over 13 years’ experience in administration and operational roles, including across the Superannuation, not-for-profit and Construction industries.
Sonia is the Regulatory Affairs and Policy Advisor, at SMC. With extensive experience in stakeholder management, Sonia has worked across the public sector and excels in navigating complex regulatory frameworks. Sonia provides valuable insights when preparing government submissions that safeguard the interests of members. With a focus on improving member outcomes for people in vulnerable circumstances, Sonia is a key asset in the realm of superannuation regulatory affairs, contributing to the integrity of Australia's superannuation industry.
Tung provides analysis and modelling in support of SMC’s Advocacy team. Prior to joining SMC, Tung worked as a consultant at Philip Norman & Associates completing research projects in the areas of public infrastructure, transportation, and freight economics. He has held teaching and research positions at the University of Melbourne.
