Report Launch – Economic security in retirement: How life events affect older Australian women

Prepared for SMC by Impact Economics and Policy, this new report highlights how common life events experienced by older women—such as divorce, changes in health, informal caregiving, and family violence—can exacerbate existing inequities. These events are setting many women back financially at the end of their working lives and mean women typically enjoy less economic security in retirement than men. The report draws on the latest data and uses new economic modelling to understand the impact of these events, and what actions are needed to tackle gender inequities and put more women on track for economic security in retirement.
